Independent Artist: Ofer Grunwald
Vessels is a series of installations by Ofer Grunwald, which play off the physical-geographic concept of this year’s Jerusalem Biennale – the watershed, or drainage divide. The works are inspired by the tension evoked by this year’s theme, exploring its powerful emotive presence within the context of contemporary Jerusalem. The installations fetishize and exaggerate Jewish religious objects, ringing their physical traits to bear on the needs of living, real-world subjects. By focusing on the physical vehicles of spiritual objects, the works question various aspects of discipline and control in a manner that is poignantly local, yet simultaneously universal.
